TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran will play host to
the next General Assembly of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA),
marking a new development in the country’s parliamentary diplomacy.

A deputy speaker of the Iranian Parliament, who has attended the 16th APA General Assembly in Bahrain, said the next APA General Assembly will be held in Tehran in the upcoming Persian year, which will begin on March 21.
Hamidreza Hajibabaee noted that Iran was also elected, by a vote of the members, as chair of the APA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development.
He was explaining the outcomes of the APA Executive Council meeting held on the sidelines of the assembly in Manama.
The Iranian MP described the decision to hold the next assembly in Tehran as an important development in the field of parliamentary diplomacy. He added that Tehran is expected to host parliamentary delegations from 44 Asian countries.
The Asian Parliamentary Assembly was founded in 2006 at the 7th session of the Association of Asian Parliamentary for Peace (AAPP) which was established in 1999.
