China warns US aggression on Iran will push region into ‘abyss of unpredictability’

China has warned that any US-led military adventurism against Iran could recklessly destabilize West Asia and drive the region toward unpredictable consequences.

Speaking at the UN Security Council on Wednesday, China’s permanent representative Fu Cong said the situation surrounding Iran has attracted global concern as the threat of war intensifies and regional tensions mount.

He warned that reckless military behavior would have catastrophic consequences, stressing that “The use of force cannot solve problems. Any acts of military adventurism will only push the region into an abyss of unpredictability.”

Fu also urged Washington and its partners to stop inflaming the crisis, emphasizing that “China hopes that the United States and other relevant parties will heed the call of the international community and regional countries, do more things that are conducive to peace and stability in the Middle East, and avoid exacerbating tensions and adding fuel to the fire.”

Emphasizing Iran’s sovereign rights, Fu stressed the country’s future must be determined solely by its own people, affirming Beijing’s support for Iran’s stability, sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

He also reiterated China’s principled position on international law, saying, “We call on all parties to abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, oppose interference in other countries' internal affairs, and reject the use or threat of force in international relations.”

The Chinese envoy also rejected the transformation of West Asia into an arena for external power struggles, stressing that the region belongs to its own people and must not be sacrificed to geopolitical games by outsiders.

The remarks by China’s UN ambassador came amid escalated rhetoric by US President Donald Trump, who recently threatened fresh military aggression against Iran.

Washington has just deployed the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its accompanying strike group to West Asia near Iran, and Trump said on Tuesday that another US “armada” of naval vessels was sailing toward the Islamic Republic.

Late last week, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Deputy Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi stressed that Iran is fully prepared to respond decisively to any hostile action against the country, warning adversaries against further adventurous moves.
