The grand Imam of al-Azhar University has stressed that al-Aqsa Mosque is an inseparable part of the identity of Muslims warning against efforts to distort the history of the holy site.

Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb wrote, in a post on his social media, that the ascension of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) reveals the importance of al-Aqsa Mosque in Islam, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
He noted that the holy mosque is not merely a historical symbol but a major pillar of Muslims’ identity.
The cleric warned against plans to divide al-Aqsa Mosque and efforts to eliminate the identity of the holy site.
Ahmed al-Tayyeb called al-Aqsa Mosque as a sacred place in Muslims’ trust that cannot be left, forgotten or eliminated.
The remarks by the grand imam of al-Azhar University comes as the Israeli occupation has intensified policies for Judaization of the occupied al-Quds.
Israeli forces and settlers have escalated attacks against al-Aqsa Mosque as part of efforts to impose a Jewish narration and alter the true identity of the holy site.
