Tehran Friday prayer leader hails President Pezeshkian’s ‘courageous’ UNGA speech

Tehran’s interim Friday prayer leader has hailed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s address to the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, describing his speech as “logical, courageous, and impassioned,” noting that it effectively “turned the United Nations into a courtroom.”

Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami said the president had successfully conveyed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s reasoning to the global community and clearly articulated the positions of the Iranian people.

“The president of our country delivered a stinging response to the US president,” the Tehran interim Friday prayer leader said.

The cleric noted that the US president [Trump] has failed to understand his own people, bringing the United States to a level of unpopularity unseen in the history of US presidents. He added that the US leadership has also failed to recognize that the Iranian people, inspired by the values of Ashura, will never submit to humiliation or surrender.

Highlighting Iran’s defense capabilities, Ayatollah Khatami emphasized that the growing strength of the country’s armed forces serves as a primary deterrent to enemies.

“The people should know that even amid a ceasefire, the Islamic Republic’s system does not for a moment neglect missile production or the strengthening of its missile capabilities,” he concluded.
