Qais al-Khazali, Secretary-General of the Iraqi resistance movement Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, has called on the Iraqi government to take a firm stance against the ongoing blockade of the Islamic Republic of Iran, criticizing Baghdad’s perceived alignment with US-imposed sanctions.
He noted that while Baghdad has previously opposed similar measures against nations like Turkey and Afghanistan, it should be even more steadfast regarding Iran, citing the deep-rooted social, cultural, and religious ties that unite the Iraqi and Iranian peoples.
“We call upon our people, political factions, the parliament, and the government to adopt a unified position on this matter, guided by the principles of national sovereignty and humanitarian duty,” Al-Khazali urged.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the Iraqi Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada resistance group has urged the government and parliament to reject the “unjust siege” on Iran and not to submit to the “evil will” of the United States.
Abu Ala al-Walai said, “It is not fitting for the Iraq of Hussein (AS) (third Shia Imam) to be part of an unjust siege on Iran, the land of knowledge and jihad, the land of seminaries, the visitors of Arbaeen, its sheikhs, women, and children”.
The administration of Najaf International Airport announced the suspension of all flights arriving from and departing for Iran until further notice, based on directives from the office of the Iraqi prime minister.
Al-Walai urged members of the parliament to work on “issuing a resolution that obliges the government not to submit to the evil will of America, similar to the positions taken by several countries, foremost among them Russia and China, which reject the siege and the policies of dictation.”
