On the sidelines of the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference, Sheikh Zafar Najjar, Head of the Islamic Council of South Africa, emphasized that unity among the Islamic Ummah and drawing inspiration from the ideals of the late Imam Khomeini serve as the ultimate defense against the conspiracies of global arrogance.
In an exclusive interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA), Sheikh Najjar explored the profound dimensions of proximity between Islamic schools of thought and the imperative of Muslim solidarity from the perspective of the African continent.
Reflecting on the core principles of the late Imam Khomeini’s thought regarding Islamic unity, Sheikh Najjar invoked the Quranic verse, “And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, ‘Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority’ [Khaleefah].” He explained that the true essence of divine governance and succession on Earth is to serve humankind in accordance with the divine will.
The South African Islamic scholar noted that the late Imam dedicated his mission to serving the entire Ummah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), transcending Iran’s geographical borders, and demonstrating a profound understanding of the challenges facing the Islamic world and the practical pathways to unity.
“Islam does not recognize artificial, man-made geographical borders between nations,” Sheikh Najjar stated, adding that true solidarity is forged through faith, which unites the hearts of believers—principles that the late Imam Khomeini vividly brought to life.
Concluding his remarks, the Head of the Islamic Council of South Africa underscored that maintaining vigilant awareness against the plots of the enemies and adhering to the unity-fostering principles of the Islamic Revolution remain the most effective tools for the Islamic world to safeguard its sovereignty and confront imperialist hegemony.
