Cleric: Abu al‑Fadl (AS) Embodies Pure Rationality

He emphasized that the school of Ahl al‑Bayt (AS) has always provided answers to the most complex distortions created by enemies throughout history.

Abu al‑Fadl (AS): A Manifestation of Practical Reason and Penetrating Insight

In the first part of his remarks, Khorshidi congratulated the birth anniversary of Abu al‑Fadl al‑Abbas (AS) on the 4th of Sha‘ban, noting that when the Infallibles (AS) describe the qualities of certain figures, their aim is to present practical role models for society. Among these luminous personalities is Abu al‑Fadl (AS), whom Imam al‑Sadiq (AS) described in his Ziyarat as “one endowed with penetrating insight.”
He explained that the source of this profound insight lies in the perfection of rationality and the dominance of intellect within his character. In its essential meaning, reason signifies “restraint” and is divided into theoretical and practical dimensions. Theoretical reason is perfected through knowledge, while practical reason reaches completion through continuous training in righteous action.
Khorshidi added that practical reason governs desire and anger, ensuring these forces are used correctly. When these faculties are disciplined, they become instruments of “attraction and repulsion”—or tawalli and tabarri—guiding a person toward deep recognition of friend and foe and enabling true loyalty to the divine leaders.
Imam Sajjad (AS): A Model of Clarifying Jihad Against the Tyranny of Distortion
In the second part of his remarks, marking the birth anniversary of Imam Sajjad (AS) on the 5th of Sha‘ban, Khorshidi stated that the Imam was the champion of one of the most sophisticated forms of “clarifying jihad” in Islamic history. The starting point of this struggle, he noted, was the Imam’s confrontation with Yazid, the tyrant of the time, who falsely invoked the Qur’anic verse “Say: O God, Owner of Sovereignty…” to portray his rule as divinely ordained.
Khorshidi explained that Imam Sajjad (AS), through mastery of the setting and a correct interpretation of the verse, dismantled this distortion. By distinguishing between takwini sovereignty (granted to both the just and the unjust) and tashri‘i sovereignty (reserved for God’s chosen leaders), the Imam exposed the illegitimacy of the Umayyad rule and its lack of religious authority.
In conclusion, the Friday Prayer Leader of Bijar noted that Imam Sajjad (AS) and Lady Zaynab (SA), through emotional and then rational leadership in that gathering, delivered a decisive response to Yazid. By citing Qur’anic verses, they made clear that the respite given to disbelievers only increases their burden of sin and that a humiliating punishment awaits them. This approach, he said, remains a complete model for confronting distortions and engaging in clarifying jihad in the present era.
