Najaf scholars declare readiness for ‘Jihad’ in support of Ayatollah Khamenei

TEHRAN – A decisive front of religious and grassroots solidarity has crystallized across the Islamic world as prominent scholars and international organizations mobilize to defend the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, against perceived escalating threats from the United States and Israel.

From the holy seminaries of Najaf to the advisory councils of Malaysia, Islamic authorities are framing the defense of Iran not merely as a political necessity, but as a sacred duty.

In the holy city of Najaf, Sheikh Hassan Jawaheri, a leading authority in the religious seminary, issued a forceful condemnation of American belligerence on Sunday.

Highlighting the religious imperative of sovereignty, Jawaheri announced that Najaf’s scholars are prepared to declare “Jihad” (holy struggle) should the United States launch a military assault on the Islamic Republic, according to Tasnim.

This defiance has been mirrored on the streets of Baghdad, where thousands of Iraqis gathered outside the Iranian embassy on Friday.

This follows a defining legal decree published on Saturday, in which more than 100 high-ranking scholars from across the Islamic world branded U.S. President Donald Trump and Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu as definitive instances of Moharebeh (waging war against God) and Mufsid Fil-Ardh (corruption on earth), reaffirming that Ayatollah Khamenei remains the legitimate guardian of Islamic dignity against global arrogance.

The momentum of support extended to Southeast Asia, where the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) backed Ayatollah Khamenei’s assessment that U.S. President Donald Trump bears direct responsibility for recent deaths and instability in Iran.

MAPIM characterized the unrest in Iran as a “geopolitical weapon” engineered by foreign intelligence agencies to deviate peaceful concerns into violent sabotage.

The council lambasted the “double standards” of Western powers that incite chaos abroad while suppressing dissent at home, urging the global community to reject these “regime change” agendas.

This international mobilization comes in response to a wave of instability that began on December 28, 2025.

While initial gatherings in Tehran’s Great Bazaar focused on economic grievances, these protests were quickly hijacked by what Tehran describes as “armed terrorist elements” aiming to kill people, destroy public infrastructure, and mosques.

Over a few thousand people were killed, with January 8 to 10 being the deadliest days.

Iranian officials have blamed the U.S. and Israel for the violent riots and terror attacks.
