Commemorative Stamp Marks 1000th Anniversary of Najaf Seminary Establishment

IQNA – The Iraqi Ministry of Communications has included in its 2026 stamp design a commemorative postage stamp on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the establishment of the Najaf Seminary.

According to Radwan al-Salami, technical deputy head of the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs of the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine and member of the technical committee for the Millennium Project of the Najaf Seminary, the stamp was designed by the staff of the Al-Joud Design Center, affiliated with this department, and is part of the visual identity of the Astan.

The stamp will be printed and marketed by the General Post and Savings Company, he said, adding that with this stamp, the Astan intends to record this occasion and preserve it in its cultural and media memory through a medium that has civilizational and heritage dimensions.

The stamp represents a qualitative step in line with the series of cultural measures prepared by the Astan within the framework of the efforts to revive religious and historical events, he stated.

The thousandth anniversary of the establishment of the Najaf Seminary is being celebrated, coinciding with the anniversary of the arrival of Sheikh Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn al-Hassan al-Tusi to this holy city in 448 AH, thanks to the efforts of the Astan.

The Astan has described this celebration as an opportunity to highlight the civilizational and scientific role of the city of Najaf and its seminary, and to shed light on its historical and cultural contribution to the progress of the Islamic Ummah.

Given the importance of this event in reviving the religious and cultural heritage of this great city and seminary, both in Iraq and throughout the Islamic world, the Astan has taken measures to commemorate this anniversary.
