The president said he will ‘not allow’ Iran to have a nuclear weapon, and called the Islamic Republic the ‘number one sponsor of terror’ in the world

The statement comes after US President Donald Trump accused Iran of working to build missiles capable of reaching the US.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said, “Professional liars are good at creating the ‘illusion of truth.'”
“‘Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth,’ is a law of propaganda coined by Nazi Joseph Goebbels. This is now systematically used by the US administration and the war profiteers encircling it, particularly the genocidal Israeli regime, to serve their sinister disinformation and misinformation campaign against the Nation of Iran,” Baghaei added.
He went on to say that “whatever they’re alleging in regards to Iran’s nuclear program, Iran’s ballistic missiles, and the number of casualties during January’s unrest is simply the repetition of big lies,” stressing that “no one should be fooled by these prominent untruths.”
Hours earlier, Trump said during his State of the Union address that Iran wanted to weaponize its nuclear program and build missiles capable of reaching the US.
“As president, I will make peace wherever I can – but I will never hesitate to confront threats to America wherever we must,” he said.
“Since they seized control of that proud country 47 years ago, the regime and its proxies have done nothing but spread terrorism and death and hate. We took out [Qassem] Soleimani … it had a huge impact,” the president added.
“Just over the last couple of months with the protests, it looks they killed at least 32,000 protesters,” he went on to say, calling Iran’s leadership “terrible people.”
Trump claimed the Iranian government is “working to build missiles that can reach the United States of America.”
“We wiped [Iran's nuclear program] out but they want to start all over again and at this moment are pursuing their sinister ambitions. They want to make a deal, but we haven’t heard those secret words: ‘We will never have a nuclear weapon.’ One thing is certain: I will never allow the world’s number one sponsor of terror – which they are by far – to have a nuclear weapon. Can’t let that happen.”
A US intelligence report determined last year that Tehran was not seeking to weaponize its nuclear program.
Trump went on to threaten during his speech: “No nation should ever doubt US resolve. We have the most powerful military on earth.”
Trump’s threats began to intensify at the same time as a deadly wave of Mossad-backed riots, which killed thousands in Iran in early January, including civilians and security officers. Western-based activist groups and Iranian monarchist-linked media outlets claimed tens of thousands of unarmed protesters were killed.
Hundreds were detained, many of whom were found with links to foreign intelligence. Riot leaders had also been smuggling Starlink devices into the country to bypass Tehran’s internet shutdown.
A third round of indirect talks between the US and Iran will be held in Geneva on Thursday. The talks coincide with the largest US airpower buildup in the region since the invasion of Iraq.
Washington continues to demand an end to the Iranian nuclear and missile programs and that Tehran halt support for resistance groups in the region, which the Islamic Republic rejects. Iran is only willing to discuss its nuclear program in the negotiations, but seeks to maintain the right to enrich uranium at some level.
As tensions grow, Tehran is warning that US assets and bases all across the region will be struck if Iran is attacked.
