Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Dutch ambassador to Tehran, Emiel Frederik Dupont, on Thursday to convey the protest following the illegal act by the Dutch diplomat.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the seized cargo contained items whose importation and use are prohibited under the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The ministry emphasized that all procedures related to the confiscated items were carried out in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, including Article 36(2), and that all applicable diplomatic protocols were fully observed.
The ministry also cited Article 41 of the 1961 Vienna Convention, which says all individuals enjoying diplomatic privileges and immunities must respect the laws and regulations of the host state and refrain from interfering in its internal affairs.
Iran instructed the Dutch ambassador to promptly convey Tehran’s protest to his government and to underscore the need for Dutch diplomats to adhere to international rules and respect the laws of the host country.
