Al-Aqsa Mosque faces intensified settler raids during Jewish holidays

Nearly 2,500 Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on the fifth day of the Jewish holiday period, marking a significant escalation in ongoing incursions.

According to the Islamic Waqf, a total of 2,468 settlers participated in the raids, which have become a daily provocation during the current holiday window, which runs from September 26 to October 2.

The incursions go beyond mere numbers; settlers are increasingly performing Talmudic rituals, including group prayers and singing, within the mosque’s courtyards. Officials in Jerusalem warn these actions are a deliberate attempt to alter the historical status quo of the holy site.

These raids are facilitated by Israeli occupation forces, who systematically impose restrictions on Muslim worshippers, blocking their access to the compound during settler hours.

The provocations have been emboldened by the participation of senior officials, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who has personally joined the incursions.

Occupation forces have further extended these restrictions to the Old City, sealing routes to Bab al-Asbat and Silwan. Since 2003, Israeli authorities have enabled these raids despite consistent condemnation, signaling a state-backed policy to impose a new reality at Al-Aqsa.
