In a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf emphasized Iran's resolve to defend its sovereignty and people against continued US aggression, which has resulted in immense suffering for Iranians through sanctions, covert operations, and wars.
"Alongside military bases, those financial entities that finance the US military budget are legitimate targets," the Parliament Speaker stated.
He condemned US Treasury bonds as instruments "soaked in Iranians' blood," saying that purchasing or holding such bonds equates to directly supporting attacks on Iranian lives and territory.
"Purchase them, and you purchase a strike on your HQ and assets," he warned.
Ghalibaf underscored Iran's advanced monitoring capabilities, stating, "We monitor your portfolios. This is your final notice."
The Parliament Speaker’s message serves as a clear deterrent to any entities -- public or private -- that continue to prop up the US war machine through investments in American debt instruments, which Iran views as complicit in funding aggression against the Islamic Republic.
Ghalibaf's statement reflects Iran's longstanding position that the United States has weaponized its financial system to impose economic terrorism on the Iranian nation, which has claimed countless innocent lives.
By extending the definition of legitimate military targets to encompass those entities that profit from or actively enable US militarism, particularly through investments in instruments that sustain America's aggressive military apparatus, the Islamic Republic firmly reaffirms its inherent and inalienable right to self-defense.
This statement comes amid heightened US and Israeli aggression against Iran, where the United States and the Israeli regime launched an unprovoked war of aggression on Iran on February 28, assassinating Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei as well as several top military commanders.
Iran immediately began to retaliate against the aggression by launching barrages of missiles and drone attacks on the Israeli-occupied territories as well as on the US bases in regional countries.
