The Deviation of Sunni Muslims: A Historical Analysis

The Sunni school of thought, one of the two major branches of Islam, has undergone significant transformations since its inception. A pivotal moment in Islamic history was the transition from the caliphate to kingship, marked by the rise of Muawiyah, the first king of the Umayyad Caliphate. This shift has had far-reaching consequences, leading many Sunni Muslims down a path of unconditional obedience to their rulers, ultimately becoming part of the Taghut – a term referring to forces of evil or tyranny that oppose the will of Allah.

The Sahaba and the Emergence of Kingship

After the death of Prophet Muhammad, his companions (Sahaba) played a crucial role in shaping the future of Islam. The Rashidun Caliphate, led by Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali, was marked by relative stability although the first three caliphs abandoned the adherence to the Prophet's teachings. ( Prophetic Sunna )

However, with the assassination of Uthman and the subsequent power struggle, Muawiyah seized power and established the Umayyad Caliphate, transforming the caliphate into a kingship.

Unconditional Obedience and the Rise of Taghut

Muawiyah's ascension to power marked a major departure from the Prophetic tradition. The Umayyad Caliphate was characterized by authoritarian rule, nepotism, and the suppression of dissent. Sunni Muslims, in their majority, accepted this new order and pledged allegiance to their rulers, often citing the "justice of all Sahaba" as a justification for their obedience. This stance has led to a deviation from the true spirit of Islam, which emphasizes justice, equality, and the rule of law.

Consequences of Deviant Innovation

Today, many Sunni Muslims continue to pay a heavy price for this deviant innovation. The legacy of unconditional obedience to authoritarian regimes has contributed to the perpetuation of tyranny, oppression, and injustice in many Muslim-majority countries. This has also led to the suppression of dissenting voices, stifling of reform efforts, and the rise of extremist ideologies.

Today Muslims are toothless bystanders witnessing their fellow brethren experiencing a genocide and their leaders are feeding the Zionist beast instead of helping their brethren.

Reclaiming Prophetic Islam

To break free from this cycle of oppression, it is essential for Sunni Muslims to re-examine their historical narrative and reclaim the true spirit of Prophetic Islam. This involves critically evaluating the role of the Sahaba, the emergence of kingship, and the consequences of unconditional obedience to authoritarian regimes. By doing so, Muslims can work towards creating just, equitable, Islamic orientated societies that reflect the values of Islam and can help their oppressed brethren in Palestine and elsewhere.
