THEY ARE NOT JUST 'HOUTHIS'

Ansraallah is led by Sayed Malik Al Houthi and has tens of millions of supporters [ 90% of Yemenis in fact) ..it recruits heavily from northern highland tribes, especially within the Bakil confederation. It also has support or co-opted elements from parts of the Hashid confederation and tribes in Saada, Jawf, Amran, Hajjah, Sanaa, Dhamar, Raymah, and elsewhere. It rules 85% of the Yemeni population and forms a popular revolutionary liberation govt based in the Yemen capital Sanaa.
· How it builds tribal support: Through marriage alliances, mediation of tribal disputes, religious ideology, patronage, and coercion. After seizing Sanaa in 2014, it also took over state institutions and used them to manage and monitor tribal networks.
· Examples of tribes/factions involved: Lahnum, Khawlan, Raymah, Sharis, Kuhlan Affar, and various Bakil and Hashid sections have had members or factions aligned with Ansarallah.
· Not uniform or permanent: Tribal loyalty is often transactional. Some tribes fight with Ansarallah, some against it, and some switch sides depending on local politics, money, and pressure.
So Ansarallah is made up of many Yemeni tribes and tribal fighters, but it is better understood as a Zaydi/Hashemite-led movement that has mobilized, co-opted, tribal networks to join the movement for liberation of Yemen from ZioWestern Saudi Axis.
