More than one hundred prominent figures from the worlds of art and culture have voiced their support for Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Palestine, following widespread attacks against her over her positions on the war in Gaza.

According to Taghrib News Agency(TNA), over 100 well‑known artists and cultural personalities—including Mark Ruffalo, Javier Bardem, the producers of the Palestinian film “All That Remains”, Nobel laureate Annie Ernaux, and British singer Annie Lennox—signed a letter expressing solidarity with Albanese.
The signatories emphasized that people around the world refuse to accept a reality in which force and power replace the rule of law.
Other notable supporters include Rosa Salazar, Asia Argento, Oscar‑nominated directors Yorgos Lanthimos and Kaouther Ben Hania, Latin singer Residente, and photographer Nan Goldin.
Calls for Her Resignation from European Governments
This wave of support comes after France and Germany previously called for Albanese’s resignation. The French foreign minister and several lawmakers described her statements as “anti‑Semitic” and “indefensible.”
Albanese has been a vocal critic of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, which have continued for more than two years and resulted in tens of thousands of deaths as well as widespread destruction of infrastructure.
Albanese’s Background
Francesca Albanese has served voluntarily as a UN human rights expert since 2022. She had previously been targeted by sanctions imposed by the Trump administration.
