Iran Elected Vice-Chair of UN Special Committee on the Charter

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been elected as Vice-Chair of the United Nations Special Committee on the Charter and as a member of the committee’s bureau.

During a meeting held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, Iran was selected to serve as Vice-Chair of the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations, as well as a member of its bureau.
The Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations, established in 1974 within the UN framework, has a direct and significant connection to the provisions of the UN Charter. Its mandate is to examine proposals aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the United Nations in accordance with the Charter.
Among the committee’s responsibilities are addressing issues related to the maintenance of international peace and security, promoting the peaceful settlement of disputes, and advancing the development of international law.
At a time when the international order based on the UN Charter faces serious challenges and what are described as unprecedented violations of its principles have increased, the Special Committee on the Charter has gained growing importance as a legal platform for upholding the sovereign equality of states, prohibiting the use of force, and promoting the peaceful resolution of disputes. The committee continues to play a vital role in strengthening the rule of law and preserving the credibility of the international legal system.
