TEHRAN – Some 706,000 visits to Kohgiluyeh-Boyerahmad’s places of interest have been recorded since the very first day of the current Persian year (started on March 20), said a local official.
“The number of overnight stays in hotels and other similar facilities across the province, also reached 166,000 so far this year,” Farshid Karami told IRNA on Saturday, adding that for the time being 2,500 beds are ready to accommodate tourists within Kohgiluyeh-Boyerahmad.
Experts believe that Kohgiluyeh-Boyerahmad is still a lesser-known destination considering the abundance of its historical, cultural, and natural attractions.
The tourism official highlighted that when it comes to registered visits to the provincial tourist attractions, the ranking is led by natural marvels, with some 380,000 visitors, according to the official. It is followed by historical sites, with 152,000, and pilgrimage destinations with about 143,000 visits, he added.
13,000 visits to man-made attractions across the province, karami stated, also recorded in four months.
Boasting 280 natural sites, 300 revered shrines, and over 770 historical sites registered on the national heritage list, Kohgiluyeh-Boyerahmad province is a region renowned for its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical significance.
Situated in the southwest of Iran, the province covers an area of approximately 16,000 square kilometers.
The province’s topography is predominantly mountainous, with the Zagros Mountain range traversing its landscape. This geographical feature contributes to its lush valleys, diverse flora and fauna, and numerous natural attractions such as waterfalls, springs, and forests.
