The Israeli missile strike was carried out early Wednesday morning (July 31) on the building in which the Hamas chief was staying.
He was martyred along with his bodyguard.
The Lebanese news channel Al Mayadeen quoting informed sources said the missile was fired from Israel and traversed across several countries.
The head of Hamas Political Bureau Chief was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new President, Masoud Pezeshkian.
Together with the leader of Palestine Islamic Jihad (PIJ) Issa Nakhleh, the two Palestinian leaders had met the Rahbar, Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei only hours earlier.
Upon hearing the news, the Rahbar vowed “to avenge the blood of dear guest Haniyeh” and give “harsh punishment” to the zionist entity.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also vowed revenge for the martyrdom of the Islamic resistance leader.
It said the strike was “under investigation and will be announced soon.”
While the Hamas leader’s assassination is a huge loss to the movement, it will not diminish the will of the Palestinian people to continue their resistance.
Senior Hamas leader Sami Abu Zuhri said: “This assassination by the Israeli occupation of Brother Haniyeh is a grave escalation that aims to break the will of Hamas… Hamas is a concept and an institution and not persons. Hamas will continue on this path regardless of the sacrifices and we are confident of victory.”
Strong condemnations have been issued by governments and leaders worldwide over the latest zionist outrage.
Not only leaders of resistance movements in Yemen, Iraq and elsewhere have condemned Israeli crime, many governments have also issued strong statements of condemnation.
China, Russia, Malaysia, Turkiye, Iraq, Qatar, Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan, among others have condemned this heinous crime.
Asked about Haniyeh’s assassination, the Israeli occupation army said: “We do not comment on these reports.”
The ultra-extremist Heritage Minister of Israel, Amihai Eliyahu said “Haniyeh’s death makes the world better.”
He will soon find out the truth, insha’Allah.
Taking to X, the neo-Nazi Finance Minister of Israel, Bezalel Smotrich wrote: “Yes, all your enemies will perish Israel.”
The missile strike is a major embarrassment for Iran.
While US Secretary of State Antony Blinken denied any US knowledge of the strike, it is almost certain that both Washington and Tel Aviv were involved in this criminal act.
Netanyahu wants to escalate the war to get the US involved in it directly.
On July 30, Israel bombed a building in South Beirut aimed at assassinating Hizbullah Commander Fuoad Shokor.
Hizbullah said Shokor’s fate was still unknown as rescue teams were clearing rubble of the collapsed building.
Facing corruption charges as well as failing to protect Israeli citizens when Hamas’s October 7 operation was launched, Netanyahu is acting like a trapped rat.
By turning his military failure into a regional war in which the US would be directly involved, he hopes that this might provide him an escape route.
There is no doubt that Iran’s response will be harsh.
What form it will take is yet to be seen.
Similarly, a severe response from Hizbullah in Lebanon can also be expected.
Perhaps, it may be a combination of the two.
The West Asia region is on the cusp of a dangerous escalation.
