TEHRAN – Iranian gymnast Mehdi Olfati wrote his name into the national history books when he won a medal in the 2022 Asian Games.
Olfati claimed a silver medal in the men's vault on Friday with 14.783 points.
Wataru Tanigawa of Japan clinched the top spot in the vault with 15.016 points.
Malaysian artistic gymnast Aimy Muhammad Sharul won the bronze medal with 14.466 points.
Olfati’s medal is Iran’s first medal in gymnastic in history of the Asian Games.
With more than 12,000 competitors from 45 nations and territories, the 2022 Asian Games has more participants than the Olympics.
Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
