: Malaysian NGO stresses
A war launched in Ramadan will not produce deterrence; it will awaken conscience, solidarity and resilience across the Muslim world. This is what we mean by the Spirit of Badr: moral clarity, steadfastness and collective awakening in the face of aggression and injustice, not a celebration of war. Badr in Islamic memory is a lesson that oppression and arrogance do not guarantee victory, and that peoples under pressure do not simply surrender.

The president of Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM), Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, has issued a statement warning that the outbreak of a war will expand to regional escalation which will be hard to contain.
Following is the full text of the statement by Malaysian scholar:
The Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM) expresses deep concern over the escalating US-Iran tensions, including reports of rapid military buildup and repeated threats of possible “limited strikes” if talks fail.
This escalation is taking place in Ramadan, a sacred month for Muslims. In Malaysia, Ramadan 1447 began on 19 February 2026.
MAPIM stresses: a war launched in Ramadan will not produce deterrence; it will awaken conscience, solidarity and resilience across the Muslim world.
The consequences the US must face if it chooses war
● Regional escalation will be hard to contain
Any strike risks spillover across multiple theatres, pulling in state and non state actors and widening instability.
● Global economic shock
A conflict involving Iran risks severe disruption to energy security and trade routes, with immediate impact on fuel prices, shipping, food inflation and market confidence.
● Greater insecurity for civilians and US forces
War does not remain “limited” once retaliatory cycles begin. Civilian harm and long term insecurity become entrenched, and foreign troops and assets become exposed.
● Diplomatic isolation and legitimacy collapse
Unilateral military action, especially absent credible multilateral mandate, deepens global distrust and accelerates the breakdown of a rules based order.
● Radicalization and generational anger
When people witness bombs during a sacred month, resentment hardens and extremist narratives find oxygen, creating security problems that last decades.
The path forward
MAPIM calls for:
1. Immediate de-escalation and sustained diplomacy, recognizing that Iran has publicly signaled openness to diplomatic solutions and confidence building steps tied to sanctions relief.
2. A UN anchored multilateral mechanism to prevent war, including urgent preventive diplomacy to stop a catastrophic miscalculation.
3. Public pressure within the US: Congress, civil society, faith communities and citizens must insist that war is not policy, and that constitutional and legal restraints must be respected.
War in Ramadan will not silence the region. It will awaken it.
The world needs restraint, wisdom and law, not another conflict that can ignite a wider fire.
