
He reminded that “the United Nations was established after humanity survived the heavy casualties of the First and Second World Wars.”
Sachs emphasized: “Given that we are living in the nuclear age, repeating past failures is impossible. Humanity would be destroyed. There will be no third chance to fulfill the responsibilities outlined in the UN Charter.”
Referring to the UN Charter’s prohibition on the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, he added: “The Security Council must decide whether this prohibition should be upheld or abandoned. Abandoning it would have the gravest consequences.”
He noted: “In the past year, the United States has carried out bombing operations in seven countries, none of which were authorized by the UN Security Council, nor were they conducted within the framework of lawful self‑defense under the Charter.”
The economist listed the targeted countries as Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, and now Venezuela. He added: “In the past month, the U.S. President has issued direct threats against six UN member states, including Colombia, Denmark, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, and of course Venezuela.”
