FM stresses Iranians’ resolve to defend ntl. sovereignty, security in face of foreign-backed interference

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stresses the Iranian nation's unwavering resolve to defend its national sovereignty and security against foreign-backed interference.

The top diplomat made the remarks in a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty on Wednesday.

Araghchi informed Abdelatty as to the latest developments concerning the foreign meddling that had sought to divert peaceful economic protests across the Islamic Republic towards unrest through riotous elements.

The former reiterated strong condemnation of Donald Trump’s repeated provocative remarks throughout the episode that saw the US president threaten fresh military aggression against the Islamic Republic in the event of, what he called, Tehran’s confronting the protests.

On Monday, Araghchi verified during a meeting with Tehran-based diplomats that recordings had proven how the rioters had been trying to cause as many casualties as possible to try to pave the way for renewed foreign aggression against the Iranian territory as threatened by Trump.

Elsewhere during the phone call, Araghchi considered the remarks to be a clear example of interference in Iran’s domestic affairs.

He, however, underlined how the Iranian nation retained due vigilance and unity in the face of terrorists and terrorist activities.

The official laid emphasis on the people’s resolve to act in defense of the country’s national sovereignty and security vis-à-vis whatever instance of foreign incitement and meddling.

For his part, the Egyptian foreign minister regretted the incidence of the terrorist aggression, underlining the importance of close cooperation among regional countries towards reinforcing the region’s stability and security.

The conversation came within the context of Iranian officials’ repeated assertions that the country exerts due endeavor to address the nation’s economic problems, but stands firmly, at the same time, in the face of any effort at derailing protests towards unrest.
