String of US Defeats Continue Since Imposed War

By: Kayhan Int’l

In September 1980, five months after the failure of the US invasion force in the desert sands of Tabas, the regime in Washington which had lost its principal base in West Asia to the grassroots movement of the Iranian Muslims and never ceased its plots to try to regain it, ordered Saddam of the repressive Ba’th minority clique of Baghdad to invade the Islamic Republic.
The war that was designed to last some weeks or a few months for seizure of the oilfields of Khuzestan and collapse of the unprepared revolutionary government following which the fugitive generals of the defunct Pahlavi regime would be flown to Tehran to restore Iran to American hegemony, dragged on – not for a year but eight long years because of frenzied US efforts to keep on life-support the already defeated dictator through massive supply of sophisticated western and eastern armaments, including internationally-banned chemical weapons, information of Iranian troop movements through satellites, and billions of petrodollars in cash from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The end result was a shattering defeat for the US, which despite its dastardly downing of an Iranian passenger plane in the Hormuz Strait, assault on some oil platforms in the Persian Gulf, scuttling of a merchant ship, and attack on Iran’s fledgling navy, would never ever dare to confront the power of the pious and patriotic people of Iran and the rapid progress of the Islamic Republic in science and technology, including defence industries.
All it could do and still does, is the cowardly policy of sanctions or more properly economic terrorism to try to slow the progress of Iran, coupled with the fanning of anti-Iranian propaganda through TV & radio channels in league with France, Britain, and the illegal Zionist entity, in an abortive attempt to incite some thugs, traitors, terrorists, blasphemers, and characterless women, to indulge in sporadic riots of violence and vandalism.
During the 8-year Holy Defence Iran neither lost any territory to the invader that was backed by almost the whole world, nor did it compromise its sovereignty by accepting any humiliating treaty.
The key to the success of the Islamic Republic was the faith in Islam of the Iranian people, the inspirational leadership of Imam Khomeini (RA), and the indomitable spirit of resistance of the committed masses.
Though the imposed war ended 35 years ago in August 1988 and the Father of the Islamic Revolution is no longer in our midst, the above-cited qualities not just persist amongst the Iranian people, but have flowered, thanks to the guidelines of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Today, without the least doubt, Iran is the paramount power of the region with self-sufficiency in all fields and its wielding of positive influence on the peoples and governments in the neighbourhood and beyond – successfully combating US hegemony, Zionism, and terrorism.
While celebrating the 43rd anniversary of the start of the Holy Defence, Iran is showcasing its spectacular progress in manufacturing the most sophisticated means of defence that are superior to the weapons produced by the US and its comrades-in-crimes against humanity, who think twice before emulating Saddam against the popular system of governance of the Islamic Republic.
What, however, were and remain, the most formidable means of defence of the Iranian people, as practically demonstrated in the trenches of the 8-year war and are now being successfully tested – to the horror of the CENTCOM terrorists, the Zionists, and the macabrely murderous Takfiris – by the popular forces of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen (Palestinian combatants and other freedom fighters take note), are recitation of God Almighty’s Revealed Word (the Holy Qur’an), the famous Kumayl Supplication taught by Prophet Muhammad’s (SAWA) First Infallible Heir, Imam Ali (AS), and the Ziyarat-e Ashura or sincere salutation for the Immortal Martyr of Karbala, Imam Husain (AS).
