Opposition: Bahrain-Zionist ‘Security’ Pact Devoid of Legitimacy

MANAMA (KI) – Bahrain’s main opposition group discredits a security agreement that has been signed between the kingdom and the Zionist regime.
The al-Wefaq National Islamic Society made the remarks in a statement on Thursday concerning the recent deal that reportedly paves the way for “intelligence and military training cooperation” between the occupying regime and Manama, the Bahrain Mirror news website reported.
The deal lacks all legitimacy, it said, asserting that Bahrain’s ruling Al Khalifah regime “does not have any popular mandate” for entering such agreements with the Zionist regime.
Al-Wefaq also denounced a trip made to the island on the previous day by the occupying regime’s war minister Benny Gantz.
Bahrain’s ruling regime refused to inform the nation in advance about “the Israeli war minister’s visit” in order to stave off the resentment and protests that it would incur, the statement noted.
Bahrain was one of the regional states that normalized its relations with the Zionist regime via the Washington-mediated so-called “Abraham Accords” in August 2020.
Ever since, the island has been witnessing near-daily protests against such détentes, whose opponents say opens up the way for the regime’s interference in the Persian Gulf region.
Al-Wefaq said the island’s ruling regime was ingratiating itself to the occupying regime in order to shore itself up in the face of “the deepening crisis” in its relations with the Bahraini people.
Meanwhile, Palestinian resistance groups strongly condemned Bahraini officials over receiving the Zionist war minister.
“We condemn the landing of an Israeli military aircraft in the Bahraini capital of Manama, which had Israeli war minister Benny Gantz and a number of commanders of the enemy army on board,” Hazem Qassem, a spokesman for Hamas resistance group, wrote in a post published on his Twitter page on Thursday.
The Popular Resistance Committees, which is a coalition of a number of Palestinian resistance groups, also denounced Gantz’s visit to Bahrain.
“The Bahraini regime’s reception of terrorist Benny Gantz points to the moral decadence of the Al Khalifah dynasty, and its further plunge in the quagmire of normalization,” they said in a statement.
“Bahrain’s reception of criminals and murderers of our women and children equates to a dagger in our back, and emboldens the Zionist enemy to commit more crimes against our [Palestinian] nation,” the statement also read.
In a relevant development, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement also took Bahraini officials to task for welcoming Gantz, and underlined its stiff opposition to all forms of normalization with the occupying regime.
