Nezami important icon of Iranian culture: Historian

Tehran, IRNA - Persian Poet Nezami Ganjavi is one of the most important icons of the Iranian culture, who should be among one of main symbols of Iranian cultural identity, a researcher and historian said.

Secretary-General of Iranian National Commission for UNESCO Ahmad Mohit Tabatabaei told IRNA on Sunday that Nezami is one of significant icons of Iranian cultural identity, because he is one of the five symbol of Persian language, whose works are of international importance and his worldview plays key role in human heritage.
President of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) added that one of the main cultural phenomenon of the Iranian national identity is the Persian language, which is considered one of the most unique languages throughout the world.
According to the researcher, the Persian language has a long history of poetry; so, numerous Persian speakers expressed themselves with poems.
Poets have their own characteristics in each language, but Persian language is rhythmic and is based on music and poetry; therefore, it is seen that Ferdowsi Tusi turns into a great epic poet and Sa'di or Mowlavi are poets who interpret the holy Quran, Mohit Tabatabaei mentioned.
The literature researcher underlined that Nezami Ganjavi is not only a poet but also a master in utilizing poetry to convey his worldview and cultural point of view.
Nezami's works contain the most important stories in Persian literature, he said, noting that Nezami's poems are older than similar works in Europe.
The most important aspect of Nezami's works in terms of cultural heritage is that he turned all phenomena into their Iranian volume; so, he has been successful in enhancing solidarity and unity among different cultural groups, the historian argued.
Nezami Ganjavi was a 12th-century Muslim poet, who is considered the greatest romantic epic poet in Persian literature. He brought a colloquial and realistic style to the Persian epic.
