More than half a million Quran memorizers in Iran - Official says

There are more than half a million Quran memorizers in Iran, an official with the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization said.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): There are more than half a million Quran memorizers in Iran, an official with the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization said.

Reza Moamemi Moqaddam said they are memorizers of between 5 Juzes (parts) to 30 Juzes of the Holy Book.

He said that there is still a long way to reach the number of memorizers that the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has demanded to be trained in the country.

In order to achieve that objectives, Moamemi Moqaddam said, more efforts need to be made, especially in the field of Quranic Waqf (donation).

Quranic Waqf should increase to enhance promotion of the Quranic culture, he stated.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said in a speech in 2011 that the society should take a direction so that at least 10 million people learn the Holy Quran by heart.

After that speech, related Quranic bodies in the country devised a plan, called National Quran Memorization Plan, aimed at promoting memorization of the Holy Book and training 10 million memorizers in a few years.
