Islamabad, April 11, IRNA – Pakistani Urdu news daily says that the US move to label Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) as terrorists is a grave mistake which poses a great threat to global peace.
Daily ‘Express’ in its editorial comments on Thursday said the US decision proves that lobby of warmongers in the US is succeeding.
It said ever since assuming office or even before, while he was in election campaign Donald Trump has been vocal in his criticism of Iran. The paper said Trump after becoming President of the US adopted harsh policy towards Iran and also sabotaged Iran nuclear deal.
It went on to say America’s unilateral departure from the nuclear deal last year was perhaps the biggest indication that Washington is not interested in mending fences with Iran.
It said now Trump has listed the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps as a foreign terrorist organization which means the confrontation between Iran and the US has been increasing.
The editorial added this is the first time the US has designated a foreign military unit as a terrorist outfit. The IRGC was created as an ideological force meant to protect the ideals of Islamic Revolution.
The paper was of the view that the US decision would further increase tensions in the region of Middle East.
It added this region is already affected by wars in Syria, Iraq and Yemen and cannot afford any new crisis.
Express called upon the Islamic powers to play their role and help reduce growing Iran-US tensions because crisis in the Middle East would not benefit anyone. The paper also advised Pakistan to keep a closed eye on developments in the Middle East.
