Islamabad, April 22, IRNA -- Pakistani print and electronic media in their reports have widely welcomed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Iran adding that it would provide an opportunity to both the countries to enhance their cooperation in fight against terrorism.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is in Tehran on his two-day official visit to Iran to hold talks with Iranian leaders on bilateral and regional issues.
He is visiting Iran on the invitation of President Hassan Rouhani and it is the first visit of the Prime Minister to Iran.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by a delegation comprising Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari, Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, Special Assistant on Overseas Pakistanis Sayed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari, Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr. Zafarullah Mirza and Special Assistant on Petroleum Nadeem Baber.
English newspaper ‘Daily Times’ in its editorial comments said Prime Minister Khan should turn his Iran visit into a historic opportunity to enhance border cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad. “Insecurity along Pakistan-Iran border can only benefit hostile nations,” it noted.
It said the two countries should also explore opportunities for economic cooperation. “The Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline project, pending for a long time, should also be revived,” viewed the paper.
‘The Nation’ said that security issues will dominate the meeting between the leaders of Iran and Pakistan during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Tehran.
“However, both leaders need to deliberate on other issues of mutual interests like enhancing business between the two neighbors, cultural exchanges that will strengthen people to people contacts; as such activities will prove helpful in fostering close ties between the two states,” it said.
Urdu daily ‘Jang’ it its editorial said that visit of Prime Minister to Iran is extremely important and would further enhance ties between the two friendly states. It said that Iran-Pakistan security cooperation is the need of hour and should be further enhanced.
It said that Iran and Pakistan through their close cooperation can undermine all conspiracies against them. The paper warned that there are elements which are trying to create misunderstandings between close Iran-Pakistan ties.
Another Urdu daily Nawa-e-waqt in its editorial termed the visit a welcoming development saying that it would help in boosting strong relationship between Iran and Pakistan. It said Iran and Pakistan have long history of cordial ties and both countries have always supported each other in times of difficulty.
It went on to say Iran and Pakistan are two major countries of the Islamic world and their stability is the stability of Muslim Ummah.
The paper viewed some elements are trying to disturb Iran-Pakistan relations through terrorist activities thus both countries must enhance their security cooperation to effectively fight against terrorism.
