A Syrian researcher and political activist has described Islamic unity as a fundamental principle of Islam and an essential condition for the revival of the Muslim Ummah, saying it was central to the thought and leadership of the martyred Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Addressing a gathering of scholars, Mahmud Mawaldi said Ayatollah Khamenei viewed Islamic unity not as a political slogan or temporary strategy, but as an existential necessity for Muslims to regain their position and civilizational influence.
According to the Syrian activist, the foundations of this unity are the Quran, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Ahl al-Bayt, which together form the core of the Muslim community’s collective identity.
He also highlighted the religious rulings of the martyred Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, aimed at protecting Muslim unity, particularly his prohibition of insulting Sunni religious figures and provoking sectarian strife. Such measures, the speaker said, established the preservation of Muslim unity as a religious and moral responsibility.
Mawaldi further described the Resistance Front as a practical expression of Islamic unity, saying Muslims of different sects and nationalities can cooperate in defending major causes of the Muslim world, particularly Palestine and Jerusalem.
He also praised Islamic institutions, including the World Forum for Proximity among Islamic Schools of Thought and the Ahl al-Bayt World Assembly, for creating channels of communication and cooperation among Muslims.
Addressing sectarian conflicts, the Syrian scholar attributed divisions to both external policies of “divide and rule” and internal factors such as ignorance, intolerance and the absence of effective dialogue.
Protecting Muslims’ lives and dignity, the speaker concluded, is the true test of any unity project and a prerequisite for overcoming discord and achieving comprehensive civilizational revival.
