The chairman of Sunni Ifta Board of Bushehr, in southern Iran, has called on Muslims to strengthen unity by focusing on their shared religious beliefs and values, saying solidarity among Islamic countries is essential to confronting common threats.
Addressing the 40th International Conference on Islamic Unity in Tehran, Sheikh Khalil Afra cited Quranic verses calling Muslims to remain united and said Islamic unity had been a central theme in the speeches and statements of the late leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei.
He said Muslims share fundamental beliefs, including the Quran, the Kaaba, monotheism, prophethood and belief in the Day of Judgment, as well as shared religious and spiritual principles.
The scholar stressed that Muslims should focus on these commonalities rather than allowing differences to divide the Islamic Ummah.
Sheikh Khalil Afra said greater unity among Muslim countries under the banner of Islam and the Quran would make their adversaries more fearful, while division would allow the United States and Israel to exert greater influence over the Muslim world.
Referring to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States, he said Muslims should recognize what he described as the righteousness of Iran and its armed forces and the falsehood of Israel and its allies.
The scholar cited Quranic verses emphasizing that victory comes from God and said the late leader consistently drew on the Quran when calling on Muslims and scholars to unite.
He concluded by praying for God’s mercy upon the martyred leader and other Muslim martyrs.
