Farid Ahmed Paracha, a prominent member of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, has described Islamic unity not merely as an emotional slogan or a temporary political demand, but as a "divine obligation" (fardh shari'ah) and a civilizational necessity.

Speaking on the theoretical foundations of unity in the thought of Imam Khomeini, Pracha asserted that unity is the ultimate guarantee for the revival of the Islamic world and its ability to confront modern political, cultural, and social challenges.
Pracha detailed the theoretical foundations of this vision, emphasizing that despite linguistic or sectarian diversity, the Ummah shares core theological roots. He identified the belief in one God, the message of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the Holy Quran, and the shared direction of the Qibla as a "solid base" upon which all Muslims can build cooperation, regardless of minor sectarian differences.
Central to this discourse is the concept of "Islamic Brotherhood." Pracha argued that brotherhood is not just a social bond but a legal covenant that mandates mutual support and tolerance. He warned that sectarian division is one of the most dangerous tools used by enemies to dominate the Muslim world, while unity serves as a practical shield against plots of fragmentation and dismantling.
What is of prime importance in Pracha's analysis is the distinction between unity and uniformity. He clarified that the vision promoted by Imam Khomeini does not seek to abolish different schools of thought (Madhhabs) or erase intellectual particularities. Instead, it advocates for managing differences through mutual respect and prioritizing the commonalities that bind Muslims together over the specifics that divide them.
Regarding the practical pillars of achieving this unity, the scholar highlighted several key requirements, including collective awareness to raise consciousness about the shared interests of the Ummah and the dangers of division. He also stressed the importance of sincere dialogue through continuous communication between scholars and intellectuals to remove misunderstandings. Furthermore, he urged a focus on shared causes, such as collaborating on universal issues like defending Islamic sanctities, fighting poverty, and promoting justice and education.
In his concluding remarks, Pracha emphasized the critical role of scholars and intellectuals in eradicating sectarian fanaticism, which he labeled as a primary threat to the Ummah. He concluded that the realization of Islamic unity would not only restore the global standing and strength of the Muslim world but would also protect the Islamic identity from distortion and ensure social and political stability across all Muslim nations.
