"I congratulate His Eminence Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei on his assumption of the responsibilities of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran," Shehbaz Sharif wrote in a post on X on Tuesday.
"I also reiterate deepest condolences and prayers on behalf of the people of Pakistan on the martyrdom of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other family members," the premier added.
"I am confident that the new Supreme Leader would guide Iran towards peace, stability, and prosperity, in the years ahead."
The post came after Iran's 88-member Assembly of Experts featuring most prominent clerics appointed Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as successor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who was martyred during fresh American-Israeli aggression towards the Islamic Republic late last month.
The appointment has been ensued by waves of congratulatory messages on the part of world leaders, including those of Russia, China, Tajikistan, and Iraq.
Regional resistance movements, including those hailing from Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, and Yemen, have also rejoiced over the development, while stressing the need for preservation of unity within the global Muslim community in the face of hostile maneuvering.
Ayatollah Khamenei's martyrdom took place while the Leader was attending his office in Tehran, despite widespread Western and Israeli media campaigns alleging that the Leader had sought to hide for fear of potential enemy aggression.
Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei's appointment has, meanwhile, been viewed by observers as yet another token of the Islamic Republic's historical defiance in the face of adversarial efforts aimed at trying to force the country's decisions and sabotage its sustained efforts at guarding its independence.
