Cleric: Safeguarding Unity, Avoiding Sensitive Issues Requires the Guidance of Scholars

In an interview with Taghrib News Agency(TNA), Mahdi-Pour stated: “The Qur’an provides valuable textual and spiritual resources proving the importance of unity and rapprochement. Disseminating these teachings is a vital necessity in today’s Islamic world.”

He explained that unity can be advanced by preserving one’s own beliefs while presenting authentic and well documented sources, alongside respect for the beliefs of others. “Strong evidence and reliable texts can play a major role in bringing minds closer together,” he said.

Mahdi-Pour stressed the importance of not offending either intra religious or inter religious audiences. “We must provide both sides with access to knowledge and historical documents, allowing individuals to choose their path freely and consciously. This responsibility lies with scholars, scientists, and men of knowledge,” he noted.

Example of Ayatollah Boroujerdi

He cited Ayatollah Boroujerdi’s approach as a model, recalling how the late grand scholar persuaded Sheikh Shaltut of Egypt’s Dar al Taghrib to recognize Shi’ism as one of the legitimate Islamic schools.
“Ayatollah Boroujerdi achieved this through gentle language, respect for boundaries, and by preventing any insult. After Shaltut, subsequent scholars reaffirmed the ruling that any Muslim may follow Shi’ism as a recognized school of thought,” Mahdi-Pour said.
In conclusion, Mahdi-Pour emphasized: “We must respect the sanctities of all sides, manage sensitivities and issues that could weaken unity, and strengthen commonalities.”
