Latin American journalists offer condolences for passing of President Raisi

TEHRAN – A number of female journalists from Latin America who took part in the first International Khorshid Media Festival held in Mashhad last year, have offered their condolences to the people of Iran for the martyrdom of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

“With deep sorrow, we extend our condolences to the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the tragic and sudden loss of Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, and Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister, as well as six others,” 12 Latin American journalists from Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Uruguay said in a joint statement on Saturday.

“During our recent trip to Iran, we had the honor of meeting him and hearing his reflections on the war of narratives that his country faces as a form of aggression from the West. His clarity and determination in emphasizing the importance of resistance and truth in difficult times had a profound impact on us. His commitment to defending sovereignty and truth was a unique source of inspiration,” the statement added.

The late president’s administration co-sponsored the first International Khorshid Media Festival on September 30, 2023, which hosted 100 female journalists from about 40 countries in the eastern city of Mashhad. The festival aimed to shed light on the realities of Iran and the lives of Iranian women.

President Raisi and his companions lost their lives during a helicopter crash that happened in northwestern Iran on May 19.
