Iran always overcomes woes, threats by people’s support: Acting FM

Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani has highlighted the solidarity between the Iranian government and nation, saying the Islamic Republic has always overcome hardships by virtue of public support.

He made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting with Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, the Cuban president’s special envoy, who had traveled to Tehran to pay tribute to martyred Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Bagheri Kani appreciated Pedroso Cuesta for visiting Iran and high-ranking Cuban officials for extending sympathy and condolences to Tehran over last week’s tragic demise of Raeisi and Amir-Abdollahian in a helicopter crash.

He also pointed to the resilience of the Iranian government and people over the past four decades and their solidarity in bitter incidents.

“With the support of the people, Iran has always overcome such hardships and turned threats and challenges into opportunities,” he added.

The acting foreign minister also said that strengthening relations benefits Iran and Cuba, as well as all independent states, and promotes multilateralism in the world.

He further expressed hope that the agreements, which were signed during the visits of the two countries’ presidents to Tehran and Havana, will be implemented after a new meeting of the Joint Economic Commission.

The Cuban official, for his part, expressed confidence that the Iranian government and people will successfully pass the current critical juncture.

He also described Iran as the closest friend of Cuba in West Asia, hailed bilateral relations and stressed his country’s readiness to deepen ties with Tehran in various fields, especially in the economic sector.

Additionally, he called for the continuation of close Iran-Cuba cooperation in the international arena aimed at countering the imperialist powers’ bullying and unilateral approach.
