Saudi network airs Israeli docuseries about Mossad ops

Renowned Saudi media company and broadcasting network MBC is airing an Israeli-produced docuseries called “The Cassandra Prophecy” about the US and Mossad’s operations against Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah.

According to The Jerusalem Post, Israeli public broadcaster Kan announced on 2 July that MBC had purchased the show’s broadcasting rights.

The series is available to watch with Arabic and English subtitles on MBC’s streaming platform Shahid.

“The Cassandra Prophecy” accounts for a decade-long joint operation between the Israeli Mossad and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to prevent billions of dollars of Latin American cartel money from allegedly entering Iran and Hezbollah-controlled territory.

This comes in the wake of year-long normalization talks between Riyadh and Tel Aviv; however, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman (MbS) has affirmed that normalization between the two regional countries can only happen under the condition that Israel must first implement the 2002 Saudi Peace initiatives to end the occupation of the West Bank and allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

Last week, Saudi Arabia blocked Israel from entering the kingdom for the UNESCO World Heritage Committee’s September meeting in Riyadh. According to Axios, “Saudi Arabia appears to be taking a cautious approach to any public steps that could be seen as normalization with Israel.”

In June, Israel Transport Ministry disclosed that flights between Tel Aviv and the Kingdom’s holy city of Mecca for Muslim pilgrims with Israeli citizenship will not take place this year, undercutting US efforts to mediate normalization between the two West Asian countries.

Analysts suggest that Saudi Arabia’s recent reconciliation with Iran and its allies also hindered Riyadh’s decision to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel.

Despite the kingdom’s restraint from signing the accords, the Saudi ambassador to the US, Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud, claims the Gulf kingdom wants to see “a thriving Israel” and “a thriving Palestine” as part of an “integrated” West Asia, stressing that Riyadh’s goal is not to normalize ties with Israel but rather to “integrate” under common interests.

However, Reema later clarified that the anti-Arab policies of Israel’s far-right coalition government, paired with violent settler attacks against Palestinians under police protection, are “complicating” reaching normalization.
