Desecration of Quran is modern ignorance and sign of West’s decay: Politician

By Somayeh Khalili

The recent cases of the desecration of the Holy Quran clearly show what the US and its European allies are promising to the world and humanity, says a Turkish politician.

Berke Mustafa Berkil, member of the central committee of Turkiye’s Patriotic (Vatan) Party and first secretary of the party’s international relations bureau, in an interview with the Press TV website.

He said after the Cold War, American imperialism “imposed its mastery over the world”, which was based “not only on arms and economic power but also on an ideological climate.”

“In this ideological climate of the West, all the sanctities, beliefs and values of humanity are tried to be emptied. In the system they promised to the world, democracy, human rights and freedom have been turned upside down as concepts,” he asserted.

“Just like in the Middle Ages, everything about human beings is tried to be ignored. Therefore, the West is imposing the 'Middle Ages' on the world once again.”

In recent months, there have been a series of incidents related to the desecration of the Holy Quran in European countries such as Sweden and Denmark under state patronage.

Americans have refused to publicly and unequivocally condemn the affront to the religious sentiments of Muslims under the guise of the “freedom of speech and expression.”

Berkil said ignoring human intellect, honor and common values resulted in the West's decay.

“The West is decaying today. For this reason, today in the countries of the imperialist West, just like in the Middle Ages, the values of humanity are being trampled underfoot. From this point of view, the insults against the Holy Quran are a form of modern ignorance and actions against all values of humanity,” he told the Press TV website.

The Turkish politician hastened to add that such acts not only target Muslims but the rest of the world as well, except the Western countries where religious values have decayed.

“This is the freedom of US imperialism, of the West. It is the freedom to burn the sanctities of humanity, the freedom to be hostile to humanity. It is the freedom to destroy national states. It is the freedom to impose arbitrary and unlawful embargoes on states. The West and its tools attack all values of humanity,” he asserted.

Berkil referred to Western countries opposing the decision of the United Nations Human Rights Commission to condemn the attack on the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark, saying that in Western countries, cartoons, publications, and programs that insult Muslims, Turks, Persians, Arabs, Africans and Islam are made.

He further said that these incidents demonstrate the West's “hypocritical approach to humanitarian values.”

“The decision at the United Nations to condemn such attacks despite the ‘no’ vote of Western countries is an important achievement. But this achievement alone will not bring an end to such attacks on the Holy Quran,” Berkil warned.

“It is only possible to end the attacks on the Holy Quran by ending the imperialist hegemonism that creates these attacks. Eliminating such attacks is only possible by defeating US imperialism and Israeli Zionism and stopping NATO expansionism.”

For this, he hastened to add, it is necessary to establish a political, economic, cultural and military unity of today's developing countries, led by countries such as Türkiye, Iran, China, Russia, India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

“Is there any attack on the Bible in Christian Brazil or Russia? In the new world outside the West, there is real freedom, real human rights. Therefore, defeating the West's projects to swallow our countries is the only formula to prevent these attacks.”

On why the West seeks to create a war of ideas among the followers of different religions in the world and ignites the flame of religious differences and conflicts, the Turkish politician said the US, after the 1940s, was engaged in a struggle for hegemony with economic and political power.

“In order to increase its influence worldwide, consolidate its sovereignty and obtain economic resources, the US is carrying out all kinds of initiatives to destroy national states. This is the reason behind the creation of fights and wars based on religion, sect and ethnicity both within and between countries,” he noted.

“Especially in our region, it is obvious that the countries in the region have always been harmed in the religious-based fights between Iran-Türkiye, Iran-Iraq, and Türkiye-Syria, and that the US and the West have benefited from this. Therefore, in order to dominate our region, the US and the West provoke and support fights based on religion, sect, and ethnicity.”

He further said that in the 18th-19th century, Europe was contributing to the common values of humanity such as human rights, democracy and freedoms, but it lost that character and evolved into the “imperialist West, waging war on the values of humanity.”

“A decaying system first declares war on the values on which it is based or influenced. The rise of the West had a great influence on the Islamic civilization that began under the leadership of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). So much so that in Europe, wearing a headscarf, the symbol of Islam, was a sign of wisdom and virtue,” Berkel said.

“The representatives of the decaying West today aim to burn truth, to burn civilization, to burn science and human beings.”
