Venezuelan Parliamentary Polls, Another Slap for the US

By: Kayhan Int’l

In another firm slap on the face of the politically dying Donald Trump by the awakened people of Latin America, following the victory of the masses in Bolivia, Venezuelans turned out in huge numbers at the ballot boxes to cast most of their votes in the parliamentary polls for the party of President Nicolas Maduro, thus throwing out into political wilderness the US-EU-backed seditious speaker of the legislature Juan Guaido.

The poor losers in Washington, frustrated by the string of failure of their quixotic policies, whether at home or abroad including their economic terrorism against the Islamic Republic of Iran and Venezuela, can now join their Latin American stooges, and cry "foul play” in Caracas in chorus with Trump’s theatrics against the US president-elect, Joe Biden.
Guaido has only to blame himself for his humiliating exit from the Venezuelan parliament where since last year he had styled himself as the ‘interim president’ at the instigation of his masters in North America and Europe, instead of abiding by the national constitution to serve his US-sanctioned countrymen.
At any rate, the result of Sunday’s elections once again proves that the Venezuelan people, despite the hardships they are facing because of the US sanctions, are the least awed by the military and economic power of the United States of America.
As per the announcement of Electoral Council president Indira Alfonzo, the ruling Socialist Party and its allies gained over 70 percent of the vote, while the US-backed anti-Maduro bloc could hardly get 20 percent of the people’s vote.
Now with the 227-seat National Assembly firmly under control of Maduro’s party, Venezuela would be pursuing a coordinate national policy to overcome the crisis the country is facing despite having largest oil reserves in the world.
The friends of Venezuela, such as the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia and China, are now more openly willing to come to the rescue of Caracas, no matter if the US feels angry.
The new administration of Joe Biden ought to take note of the situation by removing the sanctions on Venezuela and realize that the US cannot change the system of government in other countries, whether through economic pressures or military force.
The Venezuelan elections are definitely a victory for democracy in a region which Washington has illegitimately tried to dominate and hold in thrall.
It is a clear message to the world of the failure of US dictatorial policies, no matter what the frustrated American officials call the legal and legitimate government of Venezuela.
The Free World has firmly stood beside the people of Venezuela in spite of the poisonous propaganda campaign against its leadership by the US and the West European powers, who loathe independent governments and want world states to be nothing more than clients, as part of their neo-colonialist approach.
Iran extends its felicitations to the people of Venezuela and once again reaffirms its support for their independence with readiness to help them overcome their problems.
