RABAT (Kayhan Intl.) – The head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) says that Muslim scholars, in general, stand with Palestinian rights and the necessity of supporting the Palestinian people by all possible means, describing Morocco’s normalization with the Zionist regime ‘shocking’.
Speaking to Quds Press, Ahmed Al-Raissouni pointed out, "The issue of al-Quds should be at the forefront of their permanent concerns.”
Referring to the IUMS, the largest organization of Muslim scholars, he said, "It is committed to nullifying and refuting all the efforts of pro-normalization parties and sheikhs affiliated with them, who attempt to distort facts and mislead the public in order to justify the crime of normalization in the name of Islam.”
Following the decision by some Arab states to establish close relations with the Zionist regime, the IUMS issued several statements pointing out that normalization is "haram [forbidden] and invalid, as it constitutes a betrayal of the Palestinians and the de facto acceptance of the Israeli occupation of Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
These rulers have normalized relations with the occupying regime out of fear and greed, Al-Raissouni added, and to preserve their interests and the interests of their regimes. "Some of them may be attached to false illusions and promises that will soon evaporate.”
The occupying regime and Morocco agreed on December 10 to normalize relations in a deal brokered with the help of the outgoing administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, making the North African country the fourth Arab state this year to strike a normalization deal with the regime. The others were the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan.
A group of lawyers in Morocco have severely censured the Rabat government over its recent agreement with the regime, demanding a reversal of the decision.
On Monday, the lawyers filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court and requested the annulment of all decisions that envisage the promotion of relations between the North African country and the Zionist regime in political, diplomatic, economic and tourism spheres.
They added that the decisions are against the general policies of Morocco as well as against the Constitution, the United Nations Convention, the principle of international legitimacy and the Vienna conventions.
In a relevant development, a senior Indonesian MP has said that his country will never normalize relations with the Zionist regime, confirming that the U.S. offered it $2 billion to make such a move, Shehab news agency reported.
Chair of the Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in the Indonesian House of Representatives, Fadli Zon, said that the U.S. had applied much pressure on his country in order to normalize its ties with the Zionist regime in return for helping it improve its economic conditions.
During a meeting held by the Parliamentarians for Jerusalem (al-Quds) Association, Zon said that the condition of the Palestinian cause is turning from bad to worse due to the "blind” U.S. bias towards the Zionist regime and its disregard for Palestinian rights.
