Iran Blasts Pompeo for Resorting to "Cheap Propaganda"

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh rapped outgoing US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for resorting to “cheap propaganda” to cover Washington's failure in maximum pressure policy against Iran.

In a twitter post on Wednesday, Khatibzadeh reacted to a recent tweet by Pompeo who claimed victory against Iran and bragged about Washington “initiating a campaign of maximum pressure” by re-imposing sanctions on Tehran.

Pompeo also accused Iran of instigating instability and terror and threatening the US and its allies.

In response, Khatibzadeh described the Trump administration’s policy on Iran as “maximum failure,” welcomed its departure and said the world has “refused to be held hostage to your bullying.”

"After 4 years of Maximum Failure, Secretary Pompeo is desperately turning to cheap propaganda to dress up the disaster he has promoted and instigated as a success," he wrote.

"News flash: People aren't naive. And the world has refused to be held hostage to your bullying. Good riddance," Khatibzadeh added.

In relevant remarks earlier this month, Iranian Government Spokesman Ali Rabiyee said that US President Donald Trump attempted to pressure and weaken Iran’s economy by the harshest-ever sanctions but the boycotts have backfired and further strengthened the country.

"3 years of management and protection of economy from collapse has shaped a type of economy of resistance in Iran whose result was nullification of sanctions with or without Trump,” Rabiyee told reporters in a press conference in Tehran.

He referred to the difficulties that the Iranian government and people tolerated in the past 3 years, and said certainly next year Iran will not see an economic growth less than 4%.

Also, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the US-orchestrated sanctions that had aimed at collapsing Iran's economy in a short period have now failed, adding that the Iranian nation has won the economic war imposed by Washington.

“Although the economic war has caused a lot of difficulties, but, finally the Iranian nation won the US war and has become more resilient than before,” Rouhani said.

“Our nation's resistance against the US economic war and the sanctions revealed great realities to the world and to all ill-wishers of Iran,” he added.

Also, on December 1, President Rouhani said enemies are infuriated with the calmness and improvement of Iran's economy and intend to send negative waves to undermine Iran.

“The enemies are angry that they have failed to destabilize Iran’s economy,” Rouhani said, adding that the government has made every effort to prevent psychological insecurity and instability in the economic environment.

He stressed that the enemies have failed to make Iran's economy collapse via maximum-pressure.
