"Two bodies one soul” could be an apt description of the vast West Asian region geographically classified as the Iranian Plateau and Mesopotamia and known in modern political terminology as Iran and Iraq – which for almost two millenniums since 539 BC was one single realm and which since 1639 AD have shared a 1458 km long border, stretching from the headwaters of the Persian Gulf in the south to Mount Kuh e-Dalanper in the Zagros range in the north.
The current visit to the Islamic Republic by Iraqi Prime Minister, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, as a sequel to last month’s memorable trip to the Land of the Two Rivers by Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, is ample proof of the age old indivisible ties between the Muslim peoples of the two lands.
As a matter of fact, so firm and formidable are these relations that cover all spheres of life, ranging from religion, culture, politics, ecology, economy, industry, science, technology, etc., that the US which failed to create bad blood between the Iranian and Iraqi Muslims by imposing the 8-year war in the 1980s through its agent Saddam of the tyrannical Ba’th minority regime, has again banged its head into an iron wall by its vain bid to drive a wedge between the two countries.
Iran needs Iraq, and Iraq needs Iran; and with this in mind the leaders of the two countries are confident of boosting the volume of Tehran-Baghdad trade exchanges in the next few months to at least 20 billion dollars, much to their chagrin of their common enemies – the US, the illegal Zionist regime, and the unrepresentative reactionary Arab regimes.
The Iraqi guest in his press conference in Tehran on Saturday again expressed gratitude for Iran’s timely help in thwarting and throwing out the Takfiri terrorists, which backed by the US and Saudi Arabia were on the verge of taking Baghdad.
In other words, Iranian training to the Hashd ash-Sha’bi or Popular Mobilisation Units (PMU) and supply of Iranian weaponry to them was the key factor for the defeat of the macabre Daesh terrorists trained in the most murderous methods by the Zionists and possessing state-of-the art American manufactured military hardware.
This is one of the reasons why the Iraqis give preference to Iranian products and have ignored Washington’s pressures to discontinue import of natural gas and electricity from Iran.
Adel-Abdul Mahdi had the honour of being granted audience by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who lauding the alertness of the Iraqi people against imperialist designs and their resistance towards the nefarious plots of the reactionary regimes of the region, told the venerable visitor that the sooner the US occupation forces are made to leave, the better for Iraq.
The Iraqi premier discussed a wide range of topics with his hosts, including the futile American bid to endorse Israel’s illegal bid to annex Syria’s Gold Heights and the declaration of the occupied Islamic city of Bayt al-Moqaddas as capital of the illegal Zionist regime, in addition to the state terrorism of Saudi Arabia in Yemen, as well as the situation in the region.
To sum up, the Iraqi politicians and the Iraqi people are well aware that for the security and progress of their country they need to join the Resistance Front led by a friendly and fraternal Iran, which is resolved to connect Baghdad to the railway planned to link Tehran to the Mediterranean via Damascus.
And this means the Americans, along with their Trojan Horses – Saudi Arabia and the reactionary Arab regimes – are unwelcome in Mesopotamia.
