Iran urges UN Security Council to halt silence and inaction on strikes against Yemen

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson reiterates Iran's demand for the UN Security Council to take decisive action to address the military operations in Yemen and uphold international peace and security.

Tehran, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has called on the UN Security Council to put an end to its silence and inaction over the U.S. military strikes in Yemen, calling them a blatant threat to international peace and security.

Baqaei on Friday categorically condemned the continued, unauthorized U.S. airstrikes targeting various regions of Yemen.

The attacks have caused the killing of civilians, damaged homes, and destroyed key infrastructure in the Arab country, he said.

Baqaei said that the U.S. military moves in Yemen represent retaliation against the Yemeni nation as the country shows solidarity for the oppressed people of Palestine.

The U.S. strikes violate fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, including humanitarian and human rights laws, and underscore the international responsibility of the U.S. administration for the criminal measures, he said.

Baqaei emphasized that the recurring U.S. military aggression in Yemen, carried out with the support and logistical assistance of the Israeli regime, is part of a broader conspiracy aimed at suppressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

He argued that the actions cannot be separated from the ongoing colonial agenda targeting Palestine.

Baqaei reiterated Iran's demand for the Security Council to take decisive action to address the military operations in Yemen and uphold international peace and security.

Meanwhile, Yemen has said that the U.S.’s airstrikes on its soil are another measure by Washington to support the Israeli regime in its genocidal war on Gaza.
