Trump’s Yemen Gamble and Gaza Crisis

The US attacks on Yemen just two days before the Israeli violation of the Gaza ceasefire have raised concerns about the ambitions of the two countries. Tel Aviv and Washington pursue the same old goal but have altered their strategies.

On 15th March 2025, the Unied States attacked Ansar Allah, also known as Houthis, in Yemen. This attack was followed by Israel’s unilateral betrayal of the Gaza ceasefire deal. These attacks on the two key allies are part of their broader regional policy of endless devastation and war in the Middle East. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Western ally seem to escalate the situation in the region to achieve their political and geostrategic ambitions.

The two allies are attempting to present themselves as acting separately. Still, their historic diplomatic and military relations and the recent events insinuate a covert coordination and cooperation between them. The post-ceasefire events of the Israel-Hamas war have exposed the military and defense capabilities of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The United States and Israel seem to shroud the reality that Tel Aviv does not hold the capability to pursue its persistent genocidal campaign in the Gaza Strip without the former’s military and economic support.

The US establishment needs to acknowledge that these policies are only exacerbating regional tensions

Trump’s Strategic Use of Yemen to Shift Regional Dynamics

Trump is pursuing significant political ambitions through this, apparently, independent bombing of Yemen. He seems to create an illusion amongst the regional countries that Israel and the US are acting independently to achieve their own desired ambitions. Trump seeks to appear as a democratic and liberal leader, an image that will shatter the very moment the two leaders have any strategic or policy conflicts due to his mercurial personality.

The United States and Israel both have significant interests in Gaza and the Middle East. Soon after his re-election, Trump proposed the evacuation of the Gaza Strip by displacing the native people to the neighboring countries, a proposal that simultaneously serves the interests of the two countries. However, this proposal met strong criticism from leaders around the world, forcing Trump to alter his course. The United States is targeting the Houthis, enabling the Zionist regime to launch a full-scale invasion of Gaza.

This not only serves the personal business interests of President Donald Trump but also resonates with the American business community which does not want the Houthis to act in defense of the Palestinian people. Houthi attacks on the Israeli and Western ships in the Red Sea have significantly impacted the Western business community. The resulting increase in shipping costs and insurance premiums has impacted the shipping industry and businesses in the West. This economic impact is the most significant damage that any militant group fighting the Zionists has imposed.

However, the Trump administration is once again pursuing an erroneous policy. Despite its military supremacy, the United States cannot force a guerilla group like the Houthis to halt their support to the Palestinian people. It needs to acknowledge that the only pragmatic way to secure the Red Sea trade route is to force the Netanyahu administration to end the Gaza blockade. All the actions of the US policymakers, other than this, are destined to fail.

The Way Forward

The United States has many other regional ambitions to achieve through this war. The Narcissist Donald Trump seeks to portray himself as the greatest and most powerful political leader of the United States. He wants all the nations to obey his order, whether out of fear or respect. He sent a letter to the Iranian leadership, earlier this month, calling for negotiations for a new nuclear agreement. As per the reports, Trump gave them an ultimatum of two months for signing a nuclear deal. Iran has already refused to bend to all such threats. By attacking the Houthis, Trump seeks to pressure Iran. In a recent statement, he stated, “Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!”

Moreover, his two-month ultimatum aligns with the duration of an expected Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, as revealed in a report of the US Intelligence. Israel lacks the capacity to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities without support from the United States. Additionally, Trump understands that the majority of his supporters oppose another war. Therefore, he was possibly referring to the US assistance to Israel in attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities instead of carrying out a direct attack on Iran. The contemporary events demonstrate that the United States’ Middle East policy is in shambles. The US establishment needs to acknowledge that these policies are only exacerbating regional tensions. The sole solution to this new Middle Eastern crisis is to force Netanyahu to negotiate a new ceasefire deal, abandon his occupational policies, and provide fundamental human rights to the people of Gaza.
