Iran responded to Trump's letter with a responsible attitude and adherence to diplomatic custom

Araghchi to British counterpart

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Sayyed Abbas Araghchi on Thursday night to discuss bilateral issues and regional and international developments, including the nuclear issue.

Tehran - ISNA - In the telephone conversation, the British Foreign Secretary, while congratulating the Iranian Foreign Minister on Nowruz and the New Year, emphasized the commitment of Britain and other European countries to pursuing a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, and said: I will soon pursue this issue again in contact with my European and American counterparts.

Referring to the holding of four rounds of talks between the delegations of the Islamic Republic of Iran and three European countries, the Iranian Foreign Minister expressed disappointment at some of the unconstructive moves and positions of European countries and the European Union, including the imposition and continuation of various sanctions against Iran under false pretenses, and called on the three European countries to reconsider their approaches to Iran and issues in the West Asian region.

Recalling the Islamic Republic of Iran’s approach based on engagement regarding our country’s peaceful nuclear issue, Araghchi considered direct negotiations meaningless in the context of “maximum pressure” and “military threat,” and at the same time emphasized Tehran’s readiness to pursue a diplomatic approach.

He also referred to the contradictory positions and messages of American officials regarding negotiations with Iran, and considered the use of diplomacy as a tool for political and psychological pressure unacceptable, and stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran, with a responsible view and in adherence to diplomatic custom, has reflected the US President’s response to the American side through the appropriate channels.

In this telephone call, the Iranian and British Foreign Ministers welcomed the inauguration of the new Iranian and British ambassadors in London and Tehran, and expressed hope that this development would help advance bilateral relations better and more smoothly.

Some mutual consular issues were also raised in this conversation, and the two sides, while clearly expressing their views and concerns in this regard, emphasized the importance of maintaining communication channels between Tehran and London to more effectively pursue bilateral issues and other topics of interest to the parties.
