“The world should know that in case of the expansion of war, its harmful effects will not be limited only to the West Asia region; insecurity and instability can spread to other regions, even far away,” Araghchi said.
The Zionist regime has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023. It has more recently shifted its focus to Lebanon, where it has been engaged in a full-fledged battle since September with Hezbollah.
On October 26, Israel conducted airstrikes on military sites in Iran which martyred four soldiers and a civilian. Tehran has since vowed to retaliate.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has maintained that a potential ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon could affect Iran’s response.
“If they (the Zionist)… accept a ceasefire and stop massacring the oppressed and innocent people of the region, it could affect the intensity and type of our response,” Pezeshkian said early this month.
On Saturday, Iran hosted an international conference marking the 40th day since Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was martyred in an Israeli airstrikes in a Beirut suburb.
Araghchi addressed the forum, praising Nasrallah as a symbol of resistance, courage and standing against oppression and aggression not only for Lebanon but also for the Muslim world and all freedom-seeking nations.
“Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah always believed that ignoring the Zionist regime’s crimes undermine the foundations of international justice and, therefore, emphasized the importance of multilateralism and cooperation among countries to deal with these crises,” he said.
Araghchi said the Zionist regime is waging a hybrid war against Lebanon, involving military, intelligence and media tools, and even stirring sedition among Muslims, and between Muslims and Christians.
“The usurping, apartheid and child-killing Zionist regime, rejecting all plans and proposals to establish a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, presses ahead with its crimes in Palestine and Lebanon, and regrettably, the international community has been unable to stop the Zionist genocide or is only watching Zionist warmongering and their efforts to make the entire region unsafe,” he said.
The top Iranian diplomat said the implementation of a fair ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon should be the
“priority” of the international community, stressing that the Islamic Republic has not stinted on any efforts in this regard.
“In the current situation, the responsibility of the international community vis-à-vis these crises is more than ever. The United Nations and other international institutions must fulfill their duties in maintaining international peace and security by adopting impartial and justice-based approaches,” he added.
Iran’s Parliament speaker Muhammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Nasrallah’s martyrdom revealed the futility of compromise in the face of the Zionist regime.
Addressing the same event here, he said, “It has been 40 days since we began mourning the loss of our dear brother, the beloved symbol of resistance. To harness this grief as a force for progress, we must recognize the invaluable figure we have lost.”
“This awareness allows us to turn Nasrallah’s martyrdom into an enduring asset for continuing his legacy and fulfilling the mission to which he devoted his life.”
Ghalibaf highlighted Nasrallah’s unwavering support for the fighters of the Gaza-based resistance movement Hamas since the onset of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
He quoted Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei as saying, “Every blow against the (Zionist) regime, by any person or group, serves not only the region but all of humanity.”
Ghalibaf described Nasrallah as a “wise statesman” who acted and spoke with faith and reason. “He organized Lebanon’s Shia community around internal solidarity and coexistence with other Lebanese groups.”
The speaker said Hezbollah’s martyred leader used his wisdom to build a power that served humanity.
“In modern times, he established a powerful institution aligned with Lebanon’s national interests and dedicated to advancing the country”, Ghalibaf said.
Elsewhere in his speech, Qalibaf stated that Hezbollah has maintained its roots and vision despite the martyrdom of leaders like Sayyed Abbas al-Musawi, the co-founder of Hezbollah, and Nasrallah.
“Hezbollah’s founding philosophy is to fight oppression and defend the oppressed—a principle that aligns not only with Islamic teachings but also with human conscience.
“Nasrallah used to say that he sought dignity for Lebanon, viewing Israel not only as an obstacle to Lebanon but as a barrier to the progress of the entire region.”
Nasrallah, he said, saw Hezbollah as more than a military institution, transforming it into a social organization while also enhancing its defense capabilities, ultimately making it a “strategic actor” in West Asia.
Ghalibaf described Nasrallah as “a prominent Shia figure” who symbolized genuine unity based on the interests of the wider Muslim community.
“As Hezbollah’s leader, Nasrallah never framed Al-Aqsa Flood as a Palestinian or Sunni issue; rather, he recognized it as a cause for resistance, Islam, and humanity. He mobilized Hezbollah fully in this arena and dedicated himself to the ideals of resistance,” he added.
Ghalibaf also said the global community will not forget Hezbollah’s role in fighting the Daesh terrorist group, saying “Hezbollah, with the blood of its own sons, countered this international threat, bringing stability and security to the world.”
“The security enjoyed by the world today, particularly Europe, owes much to the leadership of the martyred Nasrallah. Hezbollah is a force for peace and stability. If US leaders truly wanted peace in West Asia, they would control their guard dog rather than using bombs, military equipment, and intelligence support to assassinate Hezbollah’s brave commanders and wise leaders,” he added.
Ghalibaf said the greatest humiliation for Israel is that, despite assassinating Hezbollah’s commanders, launching savage air assaults, and attempting ground incursions, it has failed to advance into Lebanese territory.
Israel’s strategic confusion is evident, with its commanders openly admitting they don’t know what they are fighting for, he added.
“Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah and his companions have been pillars of peace and stability not only in West Asia but, without exaggeration, around the world.”
