PYONGYANG (KI) – Pyongyang accused Washington on Monday of being behind the current war between the Zionist regime and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, saying that the U.S. is “entirely” responsible for this tragedy, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency has reported.
“Pyongyang raised the accusation following U.S. President Joe Biden’s recent trip to Israel where he reiterated his backing of Israel and condemned a deadly explosion at a hospital in Gaza by what he called a terrorist group,” said Yonhap.
“The U.S. is the ringleader in the Middle East situation,” said the official Korean Central News Agency in Pyongyang. “A massive battle of slaughter is intensifying in the Middle East due to the biased and intentional instigation of the U.S.”
North Korea criticized Washington’s use of its veto to block a UN Security Council resolution last week calling for humanitarian aid to be allowed to enter Gaza. The U.S. opposed the resolution because the draft did not mention Israel’s alleged “right” to self-defense against the people living under its military occupation. There is no legal defense with such a right under international law.
Pyongyang criticized both the U.S. and EU over the vote, saying that Washington “altogether annihilated a small chance to prevent the worsening of the situation in the Middle East,” while the EU backed the stance with the “absence of its independent thinking and principle.”
Earlier this month, North Korea condemned the Zionist regime in the conflict, saying it is the “consequence of Israel’s ceaseless criminal actions” against the people of Palestine.
‘Outlook Worrisome’
Meanwhile, China views the situation in Gaza as “very serious” with the risk of large-scale ground conflict growing and because the conflict has begun to spill over in the region, state media quoted the country’s Middle East special envoy as saying.
The envoy Zhai Jun, who is visiting the Middle East, noted conflict along the Lebanese and Syrian borders with the occupied territories, according to China Central Television.
This has made “the outlook worrisome,” he said.
Zhai called on the international community to be “highly vigilant” and to take immediate action urging parties concerned to strictly abide by international humanitarian law and avoid a serious humanitarian disaster while putting in “joint efforts to control the situation”.
