News Reporter:
Iranian media is cautiously dealing with the statements made by Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz. “An unprecedented position” is what some media outlets close to reformist circles described them, while state media outlets did not give them much attention. Despite the absence of an official stance, there are some in Tehran that are closely following Tel Aviv’s statements.
Hussein Kanaani Moghaddam, Military and Strategic Analyst:
The unusual Israeli statements signify their complete change in position regarding the nuclear deal, but I believe that despite their support for Washington in its use of diplomacy as a tool to pressure Iran, they nevertheless will continue their acts of sabotage and terrorism against Iranian nuclear facilities.
News Reporter:
The Israeli statements coincide with the meeting of the IAEA’s board of governors. The reprimand (of Iran by the IAEA) is reiterated. Iran insists that its nuclear program is peaceful in nature and calls for the removal of sanctions before (it is to) take any (further) steps. Europe, however, accuses (Iran) of a lack of transparency and of limiting monitoring activities of its nuclear facilities.
Mohammad Ghaderi, Political Analyst:
This reprimand discourse being articulated by (IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano) following his return from Tehran is just to convince the West that the agency is exerting pressure on Iran, because (in reality) the issue of passing another resolution against Tehran is no longer on the agency’s agenda. This is despite Iran’s firm stance (that underlines the necessity of) the full implementation of the nuclear deal by all parties.
News Reporter:
Tehran is not against meaningful talks, and it expects that they would lead to a true removal of sanctions that can be implemented.
Tehran is not giving much attention to Tel Aviv’s statements, even though it reveals much American pressure (being exerted on Tel Aviv). The Iranians are busy repairing relations with the IAEA in their own way. They call on it to steer clear of adopting contradictory positions and (that it rather) pay attention to the sabotage that targeted its nuclear facilities, which has Israel’s name written all over it.
