The Israeli Foreign Ministry has also announced the start of direct flights between the two nations

Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.
The Israeli Foreign Minister is set to visit Bahrain on 30 September to inaugurate the country’s first embassy in Manama and sign a number of bilateral deals.

“Invited by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will arrive in Bahrain on Thursday on the first official visit of an Israeli minister,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry said via a statement.

Israeli officials also announced that Bahrain’s state-owned airline, Gulf Air, will begin offering direct flights between the two countries.

“Bahrain is an important trade destination for Israel, and the opening of this air route between the two countries is an important strategic step, which will contribute greatly to the Israeli economy,” said Idan Roll, Israel’s Deputy foreign Minister.

This latest development comes just days after Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met with Bahraini Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, in New York.

Last year Bahrain, alongside the United Arab Emirates (UAE), normalized relations with Israel as part of a US-brokered deal known as the Abraham Accords.

Officials have said they signed the normalization agreements based on common trade interests and concerns about Iran.

The move received widespread condemnation by several Arab nations who highlighted that the Accords ignore the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people by Tel Aviv.
