He made the remarks after a videoconference attended by officials from the remaining signatories to JCPOA, known as the P4+1.
The German minister’s comments come as no one can turn a blind eye to the role played by the US and Europe in the violations committed within the framework of the deal and the initiation of the process that has led to the agreement’s status gradually waning.
In addition, it is almost impossible to overlook the strategic and expanding role of Germany, as the most important and responsible member of the multilateralist world, in the resolution of international issues.
At present, Germany, as the president of the Council of the European Union, can play an effective role by using this “last window of opportunity” and enhancing realism in persuading the US and its European partners to revive the JCPOA.
Thus, proposing the plan to reach a new nuclear deal with Tehran and Europe’s excessive demands from Iran while the contents of the main JCPOA have not yet been implemented are nothing but blatant irresponsible behaviors.
On the other hand, at odds with Germany’s claims of strengthening the multilateralism system in the world is Berlin’s continued opposition to France’s plan of Europe gaining a “strategic autonomy” from the US with regard to different international issues, including the JCPOA.
Now that Berlin is making efforts to, by presenting reports of its successful and responsible international performances, convince the international community to let it gain permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council, the full implementation of the JCPOA can be a symbol of a responsible Germany.
